People are like flowers. If you give them the right environment in which to grow, they bloom.

With nothing but time on her hands, retired nurse Rose Lanyon finds herself drawn to the garden that had once been her husband’s pride and joy.
It may have started as a means of honouring her husband’s memory, but her little Cornish garden soon becomes so much more – a place where the lost and lonely can find solace, the forgotten can be remembered, and second chances take bloom. Because, as long as new life is growing, there will always be hope and new memories to make…

Gardens make my heart grow fonder
Iâve so enjoyed the time in Roseâs Memory Garden and her grand variety of friends. Youâll meet much more than a simple tale of success in growing flowers, though itâs a wondrous bouquet of useful hints and hopes. Iâm especially drawn to the quartet of women who society would shove onto a shelf, each one having reached the stage of being too old. The interplay among them, the tricky ways they figure out next steps, make this book a thoughtful demonstration of friends and I who persistently shout, âWeâre not done yet!â Hope you enjoy it as much as I.

The Garden of Memories
Getting older, remembering memories, family, divorce, friends, loosing a husband, retiring, making new friends, and a garden done by that now gone husband. A magical place that comes to life each spring bringing people together in some unusual ways. A place to find peace and understanding. A wonderful book to use for a book club to discuss many things and how life changes us and more!! Excellent book for food for thought to be thankful for what you have and to go for what you want!!

Ending Not True to Theme
I wound up disappointed in a book that was beautiful. Each character was drawn in a perceptive light and the theme of making, and being, a friend was a helpful in an age where older people might hesitate to attempt it. However as I put it down I felt cheated. I could only think that the author left room for a sequel.

Meaningful
After reading thrills and frills, gore and mystery and suspense, this novel captured my heart. It was a soft book meaning it was warming and heartfelt. It begins with a newly retired nurse and widow, Rose. Sheâs feeling lost, frumpy and alone. Soon she finds herself basking in the sun in the forgotten garden her husband used to maintain. Soon, she begins to feel energetic about her life. She loses some weight and gains a little muscle. She has a purpose! Then, the garden becomes a sanctuary for her acquaintances and friends who are also experiencing similar life encounters. The garden becomes a collaborative journey of memories and personal healing with amazing friends and family.I could smell and taste the biscuits, scones, and crisps. I even brewed my own tea and had tea parties with characters of the book (lol) while reading. I could feel the ocean air, feel the sun and see the elaborate food spreads and best of all the extravagant garden. It was a wonderful book!

Way More Than “Lovely”
Read the reviews for this book,as I do before choosing one. Sounded like a nice change from espionage & violence in the book I just finished. WOW.!!!! This well- & beautifully -wtitten book addresses so many aspects of handling changes in our lives; aging, divorce, death, friendship, community and so much more. Was laughing out loud and crying, alternately. As a woman born in the 1950’s it spoke to me in so many ways. What I anticipated as a leisurely stroll through a garden was instead a wise guide for evaluating and choosing, at any age, a new way to be happy. Those who distain reading fiction as a waste of time, should read this book.

Great book until the “F” word showed up
I was really enjoying this story about different women revolving around a garden. Lots of sage anecdotes, interesting characters, and the healing power of the garden. I was going to recommend to my book club and then two thirds of the way through, the “F” word showed up and ruined the book for me. Sorry, but can’t bring myself to condone this when it wasn’t necessary for the story.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, plants and flowers definitely take you to a peaceful place, they bring out the best in people, you always feel better in spring and summer when all the plants are in bloom. Rose used her garden to remember her husband Glen and her friends through Roses kindness were allowed to do the same to remember their memories of the past. This book left me feeling content, brilliant bit of writing.10/10

Claire louise –
I really enjoyed this book.Based in Cornwall I could easily picture the places that were mentioned. The idea of the memory garden , by planting flowers was just beautiful. The friendships that developed , across all ages were so heartwarming.Roses garden really did bring people together, who all grew and bloomed in their own rights. The characters are so layered and some heavy topics are covered, but all resolved too easily. That being said , I liked the ending as it wasn’t what I expected.
