Customers say
Customers find the bicycle rack to be sturdy and easy to install, with one customer noting it takes just 10 minutes to remove and reinstall. The rack is lightweight and functions well, particularly with TOPEAK bags, while providing secure attachment that keeps items in place. Customers appreciate the modular attachments, with one mentioning the convenient tailight mount. Regarding fit, while it works well with 29er mountain bikes and disc brakes, some customers report it’s too small for 29ers. The hardware included receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting the provided screws are not long enough.

Durable Rack That Worked Great
I admittedly am still newer into my own bike commuting and owning journey. Just over a year with my bike, and less than that giving it heavy use. But getting a rack was something I knew I needed for commuting and to get all I wanted out of it. After a lot of research (I highly recommend the review from Wirecutter.com who recommended this one for detailed testing) I ended up on this, and I’m happy with the choice. At the time I got it, I didn’t have any bike specific tools, and incredibly limited experience. But I still got it mounted myself and stable enough for use. I will include the caveat that when I next had maintenance done on the bike by a more skilled and experienced technician (not the rack’s fault, I got something wedged in the chain and the gears got messed up beyond my skill level) he did inform me that my tolerances on the setup were loose, and he fixed them. I attribute that more to my tools which weren’t the exact ones for the job and had issues getting the angles I needed due to their size. I think anyone with a bike multi-tool with good variety, or even just a better hex-tool set would have no issues.Since I’ve had it the rack has put up with all I threw at it. Heavy bags strapped to it. Groceries strapped to it. The Topeak Trolley Tote Basket I’ve added to it and put even more weight into…all of it. Including me tipping the bike over once or twice with some heavy weight in that basket. This thing is tough and really holds its weight well. And the mounting system Topeak invented makes putting on and taking off that Trolley Tote Basket a breeze making it even more invaluable.I can’t recommend the rack enough as a must for commuters. It really has been a major part of my biking now and made bike commuting more of an easy joy.

Nice rack!
The Topeak Explorer Tubular Rack with Disc Mounts w/o spring manufacturer number TA 2035 B arrived intact and on time with two day shipping.I attached it to a Specialized CrossTrail Disc, 2014 or 2013 model year, requiring some bending down, maybe 2-3 inches, of the two chrome mounting bracket arms.Fits well. Unit impressively solid despite light weight. No wiggle or give. The short instructions might mislead the mechanically disinclined, so…IMPORTANT: Instructions say BEND the bracket arms to fit, but the arms are not meant to be BENT REPEATEDLY. This means be wary carefuwl to pre-fit the entire unit before you tighten all fasteners and commit to the bends you make. The arms will break if you flex them back and forth or in multiple places. Much cursing and aggravation will ensue, you will still not have a bike rack, and will have to go through the whole procurement process again. To avoid this, I recommend temporarily tightening the axle bolts sufficiently to support the MTX rack platform at the angle you want…horizontal or close to it…then eyeballing both how the bracket arms need to be bent to join with the pre drilled threaded mounts on the bike frame, and which of the three bracket arm slots should be used to attach to the rack. Then attach the arms to the rack loosely enough to push around, but tight enough to stay where you move them, and eyeball again. It may take some trial and error and several iterations of tightening and loosening the two bolts connecting each bracket arm to the rack to position the bracket arm’s forward arm hole where it can be bent to match the mount holes on the bike frame. The most important thing is to first attach the rack to the axle snug enough to hold in place so you can gauge where to attach the bracket arms. Some bikes, like the Giant FastRoad SLR, do not have threaded mounts, basically mocking any philistine who would mount a rack on such a sweet ride.I find it good practice to add a few molecules of Never Seize or some lubricant to any threaded fasteners in case you ever need to remove the thing. I have an old bike whose attached parts without such treatment basically melted together into one solid object. Again, the cursing and aggravation thing.I simultaneously purchased the Topeak MTX TrunkBag DXP which slides on with no rattle or play.Of course, you can jury rig and lash any non Topeak MTX objects to this rack, but take care not to damage the MTX rails for future use with MTX compatible products.

Topeak MTX system makes for an awesome bike rack and bag system, can redefine your commute
Really appreciate the ease of the MTX system. Snap my bag in to go, snap it off to head to the showers, back on to head home. Safe and secure with very little fuss. My only complaint is that the saddle bags themselves are difficult to put down when not on the rack, but that’s the nature of their design. My commute involves bringing my MacBook pro, a change of clothes, possibly a tablet. If I have exceptional things like snack refills, new books, etc. they can easily go in the middle sack, which also expands to be larger. The side bags hang easily and out of the way, and the rack itself supports them away from the rear tire. I keep light, lock and tools in the center with plenty of room for other stuff. Managed to clip my rear bike light to the pouch in the back, into which I’ve also managed to fit my 18oz double-walled thermos – in a bit of a tight fit, but it works out just right. The whole point was to remove the weight from my back, making biking fun and reasonable again. This, and the associated carrier bag, have served in spades.

Superb quality bike rack and it fit perfectly on my Fortified Invincible 8 speed. Note that my bike has the disc brakes below the normal location so you can buy this rack, not the disc brake version. One of the concerns I had was bending the front supports but I found that by attaching the front pieces first loosely then attach the rear portion to the rear wheel you could just gently bend the front supports in an arch which looks excellent as opposed to bending them. I am so pleased with the way it looks and how solid it is. Bought the MTX Trunk Bag DXP and it fits beautifully, was worried the spring may get in the way but not the case it simply slides in perfectly with a satisfying click. Secure and solid, you can’t buy better racks and bags than these.

Great bike rack! Fits easily to bike and Topeak saddle bag slots in perfectly. It keeps bag securely fixed to the bike and also allows for quick release of the saddle bag when needed. Additionally very impressed with the excellent customer service I received from Expert Shops.
