    Great dash cam!
I had previously purchased a Rexing V1P Pro camera, which I liked, but the GPS encoding on the video files was in a proprietary format, so I returned it and bought this.Whereas the other camera is bulky, but lightweight, this camera is small, dense, and surprisingly heavy. One feels like a toy when compared to the other.I chose to use the default power connector, as parking mode is not important to me. The kit comes with a lot of extra mounting tape, so if you mess up your placement, or move it, you are all set. Be careful to leave room for the power cord when mounting the GPS block. I almost mounted it too close to where the rear-view mirror mounts on the windshield, and had slight difficulty plugging it in. The wiring with this camera is thick (heavy duty), and holds it’s shape well, which makes it real easy to install. This is only the 2nd time I’ve ever installed front/rear dash cams and it literally took me less than 15 minutes. Because the wires are so thick, they hold their position well, and hiding the wires from the front dash cam into the header is real easy. The kit also includes a tool to help install the wiring, which is real nice if you haven’t done it before. The memory card slot is on the left side, so removal is convenient. Just be sure to use two hands when ejecting the media. The camera will slide off the GPS mount if you push too hard. This is the one thing I think I would have designed differently. If the mount clipped on and slid to the right (instead of left), you could remove the memory card easier. This camera shuts off the screen when you’re driving, which I wasn’t used to at first. After running it around for a little while, I actually prefer this to other dash cams, as it is less distracting while driving. The iOS software is very good. I found only one bug, whereas if you put the camera resolution into 1080 x 1080 mode, the app will crash immediately when you try to connect to it. The app functions as expected under all other circumstances (so far). The 5GHz wifi is FANTASTIC. Download times for clips are blazing fast as compared to the other camera I had used. Note that 4K files are huge (1.6GB for 5min), so it’s going to be more efficient to remove the memory card and plug it into the computer. Speaking of which, VOIFO even provides a USB adapter for the memory card.Video clip options are great with this camera, offering 1,3,5 and 10 minute clips. Personally, I like to divide the clips into 5 minute segments so this camera does exactly what I need. The only thing that I wonder long-term, is how well the card slot will hold up from constantly removing the memory chip to retrieve the footage. For this reason, I purchased a warranty for the camera. The 4K video quality is absolutely amazing, and the 130/140 field of view front/rear is perfect. Unlike other cameras, there is no fisheye effect due to the wide angle. The mic on the camera also exceeded my expectations. The only annoying/missing feature on the camera is the lack of a daylight savings time setting. You must switch the timezone offset to match your timezone when daylight savings comes and goes. This is a software setting that could easily be addressed in a future firmware update. Not a dealbreaker for me.4K video playback is choppy in dashcamviewer on macOS due to Quicktime. Too bad, as that’s the whole reason I bought this camera. I’m hoping that newer builds will read the H.265 codec. RE: H.265 codec, there is an undocumented feature where you can change the encoding from H.264 to H.265 by holding the mic button for 4 seconds. H.265 encoded videos will play smoothly in Quicktime on macOS, whereas the H.264 videos will not. Both formats play perfectly in VLC, so if you don’t care about following your footage around the map while you play it, even better! The software has options for displaying speed and GPS coordinates on the footage if you want, and you can hide the camera model from the footage if you prefer not to show it. I have not seen that feature on other cameras. Additionally, you can add a custom label to your dashcam footage which might be useful. If you’re looking at other cameras, and you’re wondering if the cost differential for this one is worth it, I would say go for it! The worst thing for me is the poor 4K playback support in the software I wanted to use, but I’m confident the developer will solve that as more 4K cameras hit the market. Virtually everything else about this camera either meets or exceeds my expectations.

Can’t trust it to always be working. (Updated to 5 stars)
Update: I increased my previous review to 5-stars. Viofo reached out to me and had me update my firmware. So far, it’s worked like a charm! Great support team! We had several conversation back-and-forth to problem solve the issue. I’m still using the dashcams and they’ve captured some amazing things!I’ve had this dash camera for a few months now and can honestly say I wish I would’ve purchased a different one. I haven’t reached out to customer service yet. I wanted to provide my first impressions. This is not my first dash cam. My previous one was an expensive one that did the job. Quality was good. The best thing I like about my previous one was the reliability. I had it hard wired to my truck so when I started it, it came on, recorded my trip, and when I turned off my truck, it would stop recording. Super simple. I could pull the SD card out, pop it in my computer, and everything was there to review. Exactly what I want in a dash camera. This brings me to my VIOFO A129. I opted for this model because it has 2-channels, parking monitoring, and 4k. The features work great when the camera works. I find that it records when it wants to. I’ve use the app over WiFi to check my records and 75% of the time it doesn’t record my driving. During a 10 minute drive, it’ll restart at least once which isn’t comforting. Sometimes it’ll constantly restart then stop. Sometimes it’ll start beeping ever 2 minutes while I’m driving. I’ve swapped SD cards thinking that might be the issue but after a day, it would repeat the restarting and beeping. So now, I constantly check that it’s recording while driving for piece of mind which is not what I should be worried about for something that’s supposed to provide piece of mind.In summary, I would look for something that works and does it well. Basically, set it and forget it until you need it.

Great Dashcam at first, then started dying 11 months later
I first bought this dash cam in early August 2021. The unit I received would not transmit a Wi-Fi SSID, so I was unable to connect it to my iPhone. I contacted VIOFO support and they had me send the camera back to Amazon, which I did. Amazon then sent me a replacement camera 2 weeks later. The Wi-Fi on the replacement camera worked great.Fast-forward to July 2022, when one after another, things started going wrong. First, the Wi-Fi died on THIS unit as well (it too stopped transmitting the SSID). Next, the display stopped showing the live view (it would only show a black screen with the word “VIOFO” in the center, yet the camera was still recording). Lastly, it stopped recording the rear camera view altogether. Resetting the camera, updating the firmware and checking all the connections made no difference.I would love to give this camera more than a 1-star review, because when it worked, it worked great. The video quality of the front and rear cameras were very clear and sharp. The Parking Mode worked great as well (I also installed Viofo’s hardwire kit). But for things to start going wrong after less than one year? I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve seen other reviews here saying their camera’s Wi-Fi stopped working as well, among other things. I’m very glad I purchased a 3-year warranty with Asurion (since the original 1-year warranty had just expired) and I just filed a claim with them to get a replacement (which will be my SECOND replacement). But unless they’ve started making these dash cams more reliable over the past year, I cannot recommend this dash cam.UPDATE 09/02/2022I filed a claim with Asurion for this camera on 08/30/2022. They asked me to send it back to them. They received it yesterday morning. And just THIS morning, they contacted me saying it can’t be repaired and that they’re reimbursing me for the purchase price of the camera.Looks like I’m now in the market for a new Dashcam, from a DIFFERENT manufacturer.

The front cam is excellent and does the job well. For the rear cam the exposure needs to be adjusted if you have a window tint

I have been using my GoPro Hero 8 as my dashcam for many years, however, it gets too hot and turn itself off many times during the summer. Then I decided to get a solid and reasonable price dashcam instead. I have reviewed several dashcams online, and finally decided to get VIOFO 4k Duo from Amazon. First, it’s under my budget of $300 (honestly I don’t think $800 BV is worth it) Secondly, it’s 4K and the quality is one of the best after few reviews over the years. Third the App is easy to use and there are lots of tutorial video online about this one, it’s easy to learn and easy to operate. However, I quoted a price for dashcam installation in my Ford Ranger, the bodyshop I used to visit, asks for $300 for the whole process. After viewing several DIY videos on YouTube, I decided to do it myself. The good thing about Ford Ranger, it has a USB slot right behind the rear mirror, I could connect the dashcam using a short power cable, which is the same type of GoPro Hero 4. It only took about one-hour and I saved $300 easily! I tested it several times, the video quality is really good, especially under 4K, I could save the video directly from my iPhone and edit the video on the phone. I would say it’s a really good deal if you are thinking about the protect your valuable car and win the claim after the accident. I would recommend it to others. Please note, don’t hide your cable near the airbags as I shown in one of the pictures. I accident did it first and one mechanic told me that it would create more damage to the driver when the airbag pops out. So always hide the cable through the bottom section of the door frame.

This front and rear camera along with the gps module are easy to install. The cables are of good quality and the power adapter fits in the cigarette lighter. The quality of video both front and rear are very good.

If you’re reading this, this is the sign to get this. I’ve had these installed in my car for over 2 years. Got into a hit and run when my car was parked in a parking lot. Someone hit my car while backing up and hit my car, causing a small black scratch. Luckily I had parking mode and filed to my insurance and was found not at fault. My insurance paid for everything in 2 weeks. Shop bill was $2.5k CAD and about $500+ in Rental. I paid 0 thanks to this dash cam. I would’ve been driving around with a scratch on my car and the other person wouldn’t of face any repercussions but they’re now screwed since their insurance is categorizing them as high risk driver for not staying or reporting.I was thinking to myself, one of these days the dash cam will pay for itself. It sure has. This is your sign to get one. And yes, get yourself a viofo or this model. I’ve done countless research and this model is the standard one you should get. It’s 4k at the front and 1080p at the back but slow wifi chip. Get the newest model with better wifi chip so you can transfer files 10x faster, otherwise be prepared to sit in your car for a hot minute while transferring clips from your dash cam to your phone via app on wifi.0 regrets.
