    Works great
Product is as described. You need to rough up the post to get it to stick, but really happy with it.Reason for 4 stars is that the head is slightly askew from horizontal, so it marks the wood. Not a big deal for rough hold work, and really , this should not be used if marking is an issue, but I think 4 stars is fair for that small flaw.

    Junk, UPDATED
These are junk. The pads that contact the wood aren’t even square to the shaft. I wasted hard earned money on 2 of these and neither one are straight. I could probably grind one straight. The other is too far out of square. I’ll have to grind half the pad away to level it out. And whose bright idea was it to have raised numbers on the toe of the pad right where it’s going to contact the wood?? Anything I hold down with these is going to have 10.9 stamped into it. Seriously??Update 11/28/23So I decided to put a little work into these and come back for an update. I bumped my rating up from 1 star to 3.I finally got around to putting some time into these. First thing I did was scrub the oil off them so they weren’t turning my hands black every time I touched them. Dawn dish soap and a greenie weenie did the trick. These are made of a fairly soft steel so I was able to twist the pads straight by clamping them into my bench vise and using a cheater bar on them. After that I filed off the raised numbers and the gouges my vice left after the twisting. I also had to adjust the fore/aft angle of the pads as well to get good flat contact surface on the wood. So I had to file twice. After all the filing was done, I hit the pads with some 60 and 120 grit sand paper, and heavily sanded the shafts with some 60 grit sand paper to give them some teeth. You want to sand perpendicular to the shaft, not along the length of it. You want the scratches to be rings around the shaft to help them hold in the dog holes. I found a 13/16” hole works best for my bench. YMMV.After going through all that, they seem to work pretty good. It took me about an hour to correct them, so I’m going to leave off with this: If you want something that you don’t have to put some time and work into, don’t get these. BUT, If you’re willing to put the work in, you can end up with a serviceable set of holdfasts. How long will they last? Will I have to bend them back into shape now and then? Dunno. If I think about it a year from now I’ll come back and update again.
