Fantastic Sound Quality – But Practice Using It!
I’ve used this to record several readings and other spoken pieces, in controlled and uncontrolled spaces with widely varying levels of ambient noise. The sound quality is just magnificent and it connects securely to my phone. Pairing this with a tripod phone stand has given me an instant, portable recording solution I love to use. The audio output absolutely sounds like being in the room with the recorded subject. If I have a caveat, it’s that I did not practice sufficiently with the mic and the app before trying to capture meaningful audio. The result was that everything sounded great through my monitor but the gain was set VERY low in the app and thus my audio was very quiet in playback on other devices. That’s on me, and so it doesn’t affect my rating. Instead, I want to emphasize that this is a great investment, I’m glad I made it, and I wish I had done more experimenting with it first to familiarize myself with the features.

Tried to use this for Podcast Recording, iPhone mic is better
I tried to use this to record Podcast/ clear Voice Memos on my phone. First problem, I needed to take my phone case off to connect it as it uses the lightening connection. So forget about charging your phone while recording. Tried multiple recording environments and the sound quality was HORRIBLE! It did NOT record clear and even though I had it set to 90 degrees, it still recorded everything in the background. It feels incredibly cheap as well! The app that you use with it seems like it hasn’t been updated since 2005.Terrible quality, terrible product. Don’t waste your money. If I had to give it a fair price based on my experience, I would pay $25 for it, not $90.

Amazing product. My piano sounds great. Thank you
I used this mic to record some piano music for YouTube. You can search Reds Renditions if you want to hear how it sounds. I am blown away by how pretty my piano sounds with this mic. I used a cable extender and put the mic inside the sound board of the piano. Even with kids upstairs talking I was able to record a video with out hearing them in the background. I had to use a separate video recorder program but overall super happy with this purchase

Great sound but difficult to plug in…
High quality sound considering the excellent price. Ultimately I returned it because, despit the description claiming otherwise, it does not work if the phone has a protective covering. The jack insert is not longer than a standard iPhone cable charger – itâs the same size.

Extremely high quality, yet very affordable, recording option!
Excellent product! If you are looking for a dedicated audio recorder solution, and don’t want to lug around a whole other piece of electronics, this is your answer. Since you’ve already got an iPhone in your pocket, just snap this guy on and you are good to go!The free Zoom Audio Recorder app works well, and allows you to choose different audio rates to save as, and the audio quality and stereo imaging are simple amazing. I much prefer the X/Y audio instead of the Mid/Side style of audio. For my application, realism is everything, so the results from this unit very much matches what your ear hears. By contrast the M/S image sounds odd and not realistic at all. (I assume it’s because it’s subtracting the side mic signal from the center to yield a pseudo-stereo result.)Two things to be mindful of:1. Put your phone in AIRPLANE MODE before recording! I returned my original unit thinking I had a bad one because it was occasionally recording glitches, and the second unit did the same thing. I later realized that it is the WiFi antenna and/or cell signal that is being picked up by the (very sensitive!) microphones being so close to phones’ internal antenna. In airplane mode, the audio is pristine and perfect!2. The mic is held on only by the lightning connector. While I have no audio issues with it, I am somewhat worried about what will happen if it dropped or bumped. The dedicated recorder have the mic physically mounted to the recorder, and they also have a cage around the mics to protect them.3. These guys are sensitive! Just like any other quality recorder, they will pick up handling noise if you are holding the phone in your hand. I highly recommend getting a tripod adapter for this if you are looking for perfect field recordings. The only reason I did not give this unit 5 stars is the odd noise issue if the WiFi or cellphone antenna is turned on. Not a big deal once you know about it, but I like to reserve 5 star rating for perfect, no-surprises, products. You will be very happy with your purchase!

A great deal for a versatile microphone
A great deal for a versatile microphone. Works great on ipad and iphone, with or without video. I’m a musician and use this to get more accurate feedback than I would with the built-in apple microphone. It’s also small and easily fits in my instrument case, so that I have a high quality portable recording setup with me at all times. I’ve used the Zoom h2 as well, and this is more convenient with similar quality.

If they still make this and you want better audio for yer iPhone…GET IT
Folks, take it from a looooong time musician. Zoom absolutely ROCKS. This thing will give your iPhone video absolutely CLEAN CLEAN audio, especially for stuff out in nature. You can also play with mid-side recordings which allow you to adjust the stereo spread of the audio IN POST (after the fact). I have recorded outdoor video in the forest as well as campfire audio and such and it’s just gorgeous audio. Yum!git yerself one.

Catches the minutest of details including the movement of hands. Once i learned the way to handle my phone while recording, am getting amazing recordings. Best use the phone in airplane mode else some crackling sound sometimes accompanies the recording.

Despite following the instruction to put my phone on Flight Mode (including switching off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) the device still captured audible interference. For me, this made it 100% unsuitable as a sound recorder, and I returned it.For reference, I used it with an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Perhaps the issue is only present with this model phone. Perhaps it was interference from other appliances or Wi-Fi signal in my home. Regardless of the reason, it didn’t work for me.If you are considering grabbing one of these, be mindful that the build quality isn’t anywhere near what you get with Zoom’s dedicated line of field recorders (even the H1n – which I have). This is very plasticky, and changing the orientation of the microphones felt like it would easily be damaged. What you read about the companion app is also true – doesn’t appear to have had an update in quite a while. Recording functions are appropriately advanced, but getting the files out of the app is a bit archaic. No standard iOS share sheet here (no Airdrop!) – just ‘icloud’, ’email’ and ‘Soundcloud’. Good luck to you!
