Best grind and brew weâve ever used
It looks great. Makes great coffee. Easy to use and easy to clean. The removable water reservoir is so much easier to fill. So many features and options.

Carafe brewing OK, Single serve function needs work
This is taller and narrower than my Cusinart 12-cup/K-Cup combo coffeemaker. I returned the first coffeemaker due to numerous water-related issues right out of the box. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with GE support with no resolution. However, Amazon makes it very easy to exchange a defective item.Second coffeemaker:I brewed 10 cups using the recommended ‘Gold’ setting with fresh, whole beans. The timer indicated it would take 8:40 to complete the process. Not bad, my 12-cup Cuisinart takes 10 minutes to brew 10 cups.It ground the beans in 30 seconds, then went to ‘heat’, ‘infuse’, then to ‘Brew’. With 2:40 remaining, I heard the water stop. I guess it simply rested the remaining time to let the water drip through. The grinder function is much quieter than a stand-alone burr grinder. The bean hopper holds only enough beans for a 10-cup carafe. The coffee temp was 197°F exiting the brewer. The coffee in the pot measured 183°F immediately after brewing, 171°F one hour later. There is no warming pad on the GE. (My Cusinart measured 177° and 180° respectively, due to the warming pad). The coffee tasted very good. Slightly stronger than what I normally brew, and there was a fair amount of fines (or silt) in the bottom. The metal filter doesn’t catch most of that. No paper filters were supplied, and I didn’t research what type or size might fit.Clean up is a cumbersome process. None of the parts are dishwasher safe, and many aren’t removable (the drip tray at the bottom must be wiped with a paper towel). The single cup feature took four minutes to brew a lukewarm single cup. Longer to clean up the mess. I selected the 10 oz. size and it delivered just over 11 oz. (the coffeemaker I had to return delivered 16 oz. when I selected 10.) I’m all in favor of single-serve coffee that doesn’t use plastic K-cups, but this machine requires you to install a different, smaller basket, which is also a messy job to clean. A paper filter would be a better method.Pairing the coffeemaker to the SmartHQ app was straightforward. One advantage of connecting the coffeemaker to WiFi is that the clock will always be accurate. This is a pricey coffeemaker. In my opinion, the convenience of having a grinder and brewer in one unit is outweighed by the difficulty of cleaning and the useless single-cup feature.

Not for the casual coffee drinker. Microplastics mmmm… Proprietary Cloud only “smart” integrations
I am a very casual coffee drinker, not a daily drinker. I drink it black, I don’t know any coffee terms, and I usually just use a stainless steel pour over (If that’s the right term) filter with my grounds of choice in it. Easy clean up, all I have to do is boil water, one thing to clean, no plastic touches anything.I figured I’d give this thing a try to see if I was missing out on anything.I used brand new pre-ground Black Rifle Coffee Company coffee and have not yet tried the grinder function.I wanted a single 6 ounce cup of coffee. It was easy to set up, easy to figure out, and made a good (to my philistine tastes) cup of coffee.+ Very attractive+ Screen is not gaudy, displays everything necessary+ Instructions pretty good+ Made a perfect temperature single mug of coffee (from pre-ground coffee) right out the gate+ I like that there’s a “Gold” setting for people like me who just want the coffee “right” and don’t have a million preferences+ Yooooooj water reservoir+ Large insulated carafe is nice if you’re a bulk coffee drinker+ Single serve works!+ Single mug on Gold setting came out at the perfect temperature for me to drink it right away. Yessss+ Made an unoffensive cup of coffee+ Lots of exterior parts can be removed for cleaning / replacing (But the interior parts, not so much)- “Smart” functions are GE-only cloud integrated. Proprietary crap that goes out the window as soon as GE decides it’s not profitable. And you’ve got someone monetizing what they can about when you make coffee and how you like it. Minus one star.- Carbon filtration feels like a gimmick to give them something to subscribe you to.- Seems like a lot of cleanup for a single cup of coffee compared to the pour over- The baskets are all plastic, the filters are all plastic. I don’t mind a little plastic… but running hot water through surface-area-maximized plastic mesh sets off my “Hmmmm, are microplastics bad?” radar. On a high end coffee maker, I’d think we’d do away with that? Maybe? Minus a half star.- You have to manually move the basket slider back to the carafe setting before fetching your single serve cup, or else you’ll have drips.- No apparent access to replace / clean the internals. Probably bound for land fills when just the heating element or burr grinder gives out. Even descaling is weird and mystical. You’re gonna descale with just the water that scaled it up in the first place? No mention of vinegar, distilled water, etc. I think this thing is bound to die and you’ll not be able to replace the parts. Minus a half star.
