Customers say

Customers find the oil filter wrench works well, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, and appreciate its compact size that fits into tight spots. The tool is easy to use, with one customer noting it works well with flex head ratchets, and effectively breaks stubborn filters loose. The grip receives mixed feedback, with some saying it grips tightly while others find it needs improvement. While some customers consider it a great value for the price, others feel it’s expensive for what you get.

Fits most passenger vehicle oil filters
Love this claw over any oil filter wrench, grips nice, does the job every time. position it evenly and it will crush an oil filter before it slips. Very nice for those oil filters changed by God himself. Easy to use with most flex head ratchets for different positions. Do not use on cartridge style filters, (bmw Mercedes dodge Kia etc.) as these require the proper size oil filter sockets. Prefer to use a ball detent button ratchet for easy removal of tool. Otherwise snap on ratchets grab a little hard and be clumsy to remove. Essential technican/mechanic tool due to the frequency of disposable filters in light duty automotive and value.

    Worked great.
I have to go straight on the end of the filter. I have been using a fluted cup type of wrench. and have had trouble with it slipping. this gear wrench , filter remover worked great, no slipping. very happy.

    Grips Like A Vise
EXCELLENT TOOL! Solid and well built. It seems like the oil filters on my 2010 Dodge Nitro are always stuck every time I change the oil. This tool broke it free in less than half a turn with a 3/8″ ratchet. If you have a stuck oil filter this is the ticket. It grips like a vise and doesn’t slip at all. Fits even small filters like mine. I highly recommend this over the old screwdriver method for stuck filters.

    Best oil filter wrench.
I have like 3 variety of these and I didn’t think much would change between them but this type is so much better then the spring type. Easier to fit over the filter and had a better grip. It will destroy it tho so make sure to get the right filter.

This is a good claw for some applications
Couple things with this one. The opening isnt as wide as claws I’ve had in the past, so for some applications it’s useless, also it’s to big for some of the smaller filters which is hilarious cause it’s to small for some filters too. All of this could be overlooked if it wasn’t for the fact that this doesn’t tighten filters it only removes them. I get the idea behind hand tightening filters but on bigger trucks youd like to have that extra quarter turn of security. Also if your hands get oily “hand tight” isnt actually hand tight. I’d recommend finding a better claw

I’ve actually owned a Matco branded version of this tool for quite awhile, which at the time I bought it (likely not the case these days), was just a rebranded version of this GearWrench tool. Probably one of the best tool purchases I’ve ever made since this tool has never failed to take off any oil filter I’ve used it on (from narrow Honda filters, up to large diameter truck filters) and I still use the exact same one to this day (7-8 years of professional use).Ended up ordering one here on Amazon for somebody else to replace a cheap one they had that didn’t work on Honda oil filters and a couple of my coworkers have ordered these as well as this version isn’t expensive, is well built and works on the widest variety of spin on oil filters. Just keep in mind this tool only removes the old oil filter, you still need to spin the new one on yourself. But for anyone who changes oil frequently, you’ll really appreciate having this tool around, especially when you have a really stubborn oil filter.

I was about to do the first oil change on my new Kia when I realized that my oil filter wrench was to big for this little filter. I ordered this unit and it worked perfectly. I like the style as well. I have to go up through a pan to get to the filter and was able to use an extension on the rachet. The filer wrench seems very sturdy. It should last for a lot of oil changes like maybe years.I definitely would recommend this oil filter wrench

Hard to get it started on the filter, but when it grips, it grabs the filter tightly for unscrewing. Fits into places well.
