Indispenable tool for all
My dad had a Yankee-style screwdriver, and when I helped him around the house during my early years, it was one of the most interesting and fascinating of all his tools. I hadn’t thought much about it until recently, when I had a rash of screws to screw in or out, and they were the kind of screws that a cordless driver was a little too much, and a regular hand-powered driver was a pain in the butt after a while. Epiphany struck, and I thought, ‘damn, I wish I had one of those racheting screwdrivers like Dad used to use…” Hence, the Yankee-style driver. In a tight spot, they’re much easier to use than a normal driver, and because of the in/out motion rather than the circular motion for even a ‘standard’ racheting driver, they’re just so much more convenient. My Kings County drivers is perfect, well balanced, smooth, and has an easy to use thumb-catch to toggle from in to out to fixed. Extra bits are stored in the hollow handle, and there’s even enough room there to store another couple of bits if you have a favorite style or size. The bit-holding mechanism is secure, with a nice, tight metal band around the holder itself. Dad’s tool had a smooth, beautiful wooden handle, but in these days, you get plastic, that’s just the way it is. Of course, the old tool couldn’t store extra bits, and if I remember, it didn’t have removeable bits – just a fixed, slotted drive blade. This Kings County tool is a must-have, especially for any homeowner who needs to be able to grab a screwdriver for a quick tighten or loosen job, and doesn’t want to mess with a cordless or dig through the junk drawer for the phillips or the slotted or the square drive or the hex drive or the star drive…They’re all in one here. Highly recommended.

Likely to become my favorite screw driver
This is not the smoothest tool but I sprayed it with silicone and that helped the tip to spin. I think that as I use it any roughness will become smooth. The hex tip is a bit deep to accommodate the included double ended short bits, so regular short bits end up going a little too deep. They stick out enough to be useful but are right on the edge of disappearing into the hole. Longer shank bits work fine. There is space in the handle for bits and a couple (future) drill bits. My old one had 3 drilling bits with traditional Yankee Screw Driver shanks, along with screw driver tips. But getting specialty tips was hard. The Hex setup of the tip should let me use different bits but I will need to buy drill bits with hex bases for full functionality. There is a “looseness” or tiny bit of rotation in the shank when using it is a regular screw driver, but it is not bad and is as good or better than my old Yankee Screwdriver. Once I accept/remember it is there I compensate very little and just use it for that final tightening twist.Overall I really like it and it may become the first screw driver I reach for.Overall I really like it.

Absolutely trash *updated review*
After a couple of months and literally 4 used that added up to MAYBE 10 min of use this thing stopped working then fell apart.Do not buy this this. I thought it felt odd when new but assumed that’s because of how it worked. Nope. It’s because it’s terribly made out of terrible materials.Original review below…been looking for a good screwdriver like this for a while now. It makes building something like a PC much easier since screws go where hands do not at times so pushing is easier than spinning. My only complaint is the materials used. It doesn’t feel very sturdy so I don’t expect it to last long under heavy use. Thankfully I won’t need to use it that much. It doesn’t help that the top of the handle has some super cheap plastic holding different bits.Since this is a tool it will get dropped and abused and that plastic will likely break very easily. The whole thing also just rattles because the metal used is definitely not high quality. It feels like it could fall apart at any time and better materials would probably fix that. I don’t think it will fall apart under light use but if you’re looking for something to use daily then maybe find one made a bit better.Like I said I’m mostly going to use this on PC’s or electronic devices so it should hold up for a while but if you’re planning on doing anything more… Strenuous with it then maybe look elsewhere. Not bad, not great but good enough for my needs, at least for now.

Decent replacement for the original Yankee screwdriver
I bought this for my 9 year old Grandson, whom we all think will be the next family engineer (his Daddy and his Uncle are engineers, as was his step Grampa). I have had the original Yankee for years, so I thought it would be a good tool for him to add to his tool collection. I was disappointed to learn that Stanley stopped making them, but glad to find out that Kings County Tool picked up them up. I was a little disappointed about the quality, which doesnât quite match the original (thatâs why 4 stars), but itâs still pretty good.

Gets the job done, but sticks a little.
It does what itâs meant to do, but the handle can stick sometimes and takes a second to set to rights.

Well worth the money
It is not the same Yankee screwdriver as my dads. I think its better! My dads old yankee screwdriver needed special bits but this one uses the same tips that my screw gun uses. The only thing that could be improved is that it doesn’t lock down to a smaller position for storage like the older version did(at least I haven’t figured out how). So far I have just played with it a little bit so not sure how it will hold up but it seems like good quality. I highly recommend. I will buy the longer one next time.

What a fantastic tool, clever &simple vintage design
I just learned about these recently and now Iâm wondering where theyâve been all my life. Just love it. Apparently theyâve been around for a very long time, but I had never heard about them. Seems like they should be in every toolbox.
